Editorial
Dear reader,

You are looking at issue number five of the International Circular of Graphic Education and Research, the Journal of the International Circle. Thank you very much for your sustained interest in our publication. Thank you even more if you were among the authors who contributed to the journal.
This issue keeps the promise which was given in the editorial of the last number: Im proud to present the first article which will be published in this journal as well as in TAGAs Journal of Graphic Technology. The paper by Wu et al. certainly makes interesting reading also for the readers of this journal.
In turn, Liam OHara, the editor of the Journal of Graphic Technology, has already expressed his interest in two articles of this Journal, but I cant disclose yet which these will be.
Again I should like to stress what a fortunate cooperation this makes in my eyes. Though TAGA as well as the IC are profoundly international organizations, the majority of the members of the respective societies live on different sides of the Atlantic Ocean. So there is a real advantage for authors and readers in the Old as well as in the New World; they find additional readers as well as additional information for their own scientific and educational work.
This is a very positive development indeed, and another opportunity to say thank you to all those who contributed to it. Its fair to say, I think, that former TAGA president Björn Kruse has contributed more to this achievement than any three other people alive.
There is another new feature in this number of the Journal. You may have heard, if you didnt take part in it, that the IC organized two major events this year.
The first one was a one-day symposium at drupa the worlds largest fair for our business , concentrating on the future education for our trade, the co-operation between academia and industry to this end, and the various political developments currently going on around this topic. The second event was the regular IC Annual conference at Budapest, where, beside high-calibre science, the same topic was raised as well. Both events sparked lively discussions, in lectures, in discussion contributions, and off the record.
I felt that these discussions should be continued, and so I was delighted that our Indian colleague, Rajendrakumar Anayath, wrote down his very personal view of the discussions, and sent it to me. He calls for more self-confidence of the printers who, according to Rajendrakumar, can do much more than just try to appease to the electronic media. Very interesting food for thought, and certainly with the potential to start a hot debate.
So I decided to open a new section in the journal, and called it forum. The forum is meant to present personal comments and views, and to serve as a room for debate. But also here it remains true: without input no output. So, please, hand in your comments. I will be glad to distribute them to our community.
