About the IC

Prof. Dr. Anastasios Politis, Athens, Greece, Chairman of the IC

The International Circle of Educational Institutes for Graphic Media Technology and Management (IC) is an informal network of about one hundred members from all over the world. The members are institutes or organisations operating in higher education and research with a specific interest in the design, production, technology and management of media. It was founded in Lausanne, Switzerland, in 1957 by a few mid-European universities for printing technology.

The IC is managed by the IC Presidium, formed by:

• Prof. Dr. Anastasios E. Politis, IC Chair, University of West Attica, Athens, Greece
• Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gunter Hübner, Hochschule der Medien, Stuttgart, Germany
• Martin Habekost. Dr. rer. nat. Associate Chair, Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada
• Daiva Sajek, Head of Media Technology Department, Kaunas University of Applied Sciences Lithuania

Anastasios E. Politis is the IC-Chair since April 2021. A. Politis is a professor at the University of West Attica, Director of GRAPHMEDLAB – The Hellenic Graphic-Media Research Lab and Honorary Chairman of HELGRAMED, The Hellenic Union of Print-Media Engineers, Greece.

During the more than 60 years of its existence, the IC has grown far beyond its beginnings, scientifically as well as in terms of its international extension; its member universities now are scattered all over the world. The main focus of the IC’s work remains in the field of the graphic arts industry; most of its members, however, have added the electronic media to their portfolios, just as the corresponding industries have done. They provide scientific, engineering, management and economic education which qualifies their students for leading positions in the graphic-media industries.

With its annual conferences, and other events in between, its website and its emerging scientific journal, the IC offers a wide platform for the exchange of ideas about scientific issues within its field as well as about the structure and content of the respective education. It fosters all forms of cooperation between its members in the field of education and researchIn addition, IC is cooperating with other institutes and organizations of all types in the wider field of graphic communication and media technology, printing, publishing and packaging around the world, providing a unique platform for cooperation in the above mentioned fields.

Information about an institution’s special orientation, its main focus in education and research, is important for educators and researchers as well as for future students. It does not only help in the search for professional partners, but also in organising studies and internships abroad, mapping out field trips, and much more.

The IC seeks close cooperation with its industry. Widespread links with the graphic communication, print-media industry, manufacturers and suppliers, guarantee an effective relevance of the education provided, which is of great importance to all IC member institutes.

The IC is interested in the active participation of all its member institutes as well as individual colleagues and asks them to introduce new ideas for cooperation and project development. Please do approach us!
